I want one of those Camel Trophy keys.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Here's one I bet you haven't seen. The Shinozuka Kenjiro Edition. Only 100 made. If the name sounds familiar, you know your Dakar history. Shinozuka Kenjiro was a well known and very good Japanese rally driver in the mid-eighties until his retirement a couple years back. He finished 3rd in the 1987 Dakar and 2nd in 1988 and really put the Pajero "on the map". I guess in honor of his achievements Mitsu built a limited edition truck for him.

All came as SWB and with a white paintjob. They used the 4D56 diesel and a 5MT. The rear was unique. It featured "sport suspension" with stiffer rear coil spings, an LSD, and rear disc brakes. On the exterior you'll note that it had a primitive rear spoiler. Kind of an early version of the aero kit that was used on the later Pajero Evolutions. The side view mirrors may have been unique as well, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Some more pics:

Mirrors appear pretty standard for the period (and outside US), I'd like a set for trailer towing.

Wow, I love the pizza cutter tires on the topless pic.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks for those great links to the Japanese site. I have only seen 1 Pajero with the wood door and dash trims (they were real wood by the way) and it looked fantastic. Didn't have the wooden box between the seats or the TV though. Old series 1 Pajeros are being wrecked here at a great rate as the series 2 is so common and cheap. I must look out for someone wrecking a Royal Super Exceed. I have seen 1 yellow Pajero that could have been the elusive Camel version.

They made factory yellow ones that were not the Camel ones.
