anyone have any idea how much of the wiring in an 85 is essential if the stock carburetor setup is done away with? I just scored a '75 ford courier and plan on using it for its body and therefore keeping everything i like about my yota except the ca smogging difficulties. i'm thinking about using a webber carb and eliminating all non- essential wiring in the swap. Any ideas are welcome.

A lot of work just to avoid a smog check every two years. Also isn't the Currier a smaller truck?

If you want to build a Currier into a 4x4, that would be a different/one-off kind of rig, and you wouldn't be turning an '85 Toy into a '75 Ford.

I haven't checked but are you only 3-6yrs(27 or 30 yrs old car) from no more smog checks, or have they reversed the 27yr date again.

I think they stopped the rolling date at 75 or 76. and yes it is a bit smaller but not much. the engine compartment is 2 inches shorter longitudinally and about the same in width difference as well. the cab is just slightly smaller too maybe an inch. it is a lot of work, I'm just trying to work with what is available to me and I want the freedom to mess with stuff under the hood and be able to drive on the street legally still.

I understand the desire to escape CARB, but you would still have to smog it if and when you sold it.

I wouldn't cut up the '85 though, I would look for an IFS rig that is being parted out, similar to these, 1986 Toyota 4x4 22RET, parting out 86 toyota 4x4, Parting out 1988 toyota 4 runner, then throw a Dana 44 under the front. In the long run it would probably cost you less than what you could get for your '85.

I've never had to smog anything that was beyond the smog age threshhold, no way, no how, not even when selling. Not that I would ever want to sell this frankenstien monster that I'm thinkin about building.
