I did that ,,,,so I didn't want to take a chance with such an important seal..
Get a Speedy Sleeve, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> ( buy 2 for the one you mess up).
$18.00 at Kragen. I used a crank bolt and a socket to Slowly press it on. I did not used sleeve retainer glue.

Never heard of these sleeves, though I get what they are about. Are they then thin enough and/or the seal has enough stretch that the OEM seal still works? ot do you have to get a larger I.D. seal?

Speedy sleeves are made of stainless steel. I have used them on harmonic balancer snouts and even on spindels after a bearing has siezed and made it unfit to put a new bearing on. They are thin enough that stock seals still work perfectly and the stainless is strong enough to apply pressure to install them. They have a removable flange on one end that lets you drive them on. I have always heated the sleeve and if possible, put the other part (harmonic balancer) in the freezer. Heat/cold works like magic. Speedy sleeves are a life saver in some cases.

Heat/cold works like magic. Amen to that <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> All back together and running like a champ...apart from some minor idle issues. I hope the crank seal will be OK. Only time will tell I guess. I'd rather not see the timing belt on this truck for quite a while <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" /> Besides, I can't afford it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" /> Phew! That was a marathon!! More the valve guide seals later... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

You should be fine.
'Cause you're the Stig, right? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
