Just thought I'd drag this thread up to report no signs of any oil leaks after 5k miles. Fingers crossed that it stays that way for quite a while <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thanks again for your help on this one fellas <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool

I'm needing to replace my seal and T belt again real soon.
I takes mine about a month to start leaking. It developes "a spray" pattern across the pan and all over the trans cross beam mt. Eventually the belt is soaked.
A local machine shop says liquid steal the key <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />, my keyway <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />is damaged. I was thinking maybe some kinda shim to make the H.B. center better--- suggestion appreciated-.
Still trying to get up the bucks for this Hyundai engine.

I don't see why a damaged keyway would cause the seal to leak after a month. It sounds more like the seal surface is no longer smooth. You could use a seal surface repair sleeve and maybe it would solve the sealing problem, but you'd still be left with a problem with the harmonic balancer. Filling the keyway with JB Weld might work, but it's not such a good idea unless you never want to remove the woodruff key again. OTOH, maybe it'll work long enough to buy some time to find another engine or crankshaft.

Yeah using WB weld on a damaged keyway is a famous fix for the short nose crank damage common on early, early Miatas. Many have done the fix successfully but it doesn't last forever.

Good luck <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
