Is that an 84/85 GS550ES on the right end in that pic? I had an ED in college!

I thought you had a real KRL, Phil. Not a new one.

Got out for a ride around town, and the next day we got more snow.

Yeah, we got snow last weekend. I only managed to ride mine one more day after I posted. I did also take a short jaunt to test out the new rubber. Can't wait!

Looks way more comfy with those bars. Nice lookin' bike. I watched some YouTube vids of that bike being ridden...looks and sounds REALLY fun. Is that a tire warmer on the front??

I like it a lot too. I would go without the windshield ferring(sp?) though.

Gun it and run it!

Nope, its a high performance cotton front fender protector, otherwise know as an old bath towel lol. Wanted to protect my shiny new front fender while I was putting the bars on smile

Everyone's entitled to their opinions: IMHO, the character of the bike is the same. Its just more comfortable, less ugly (arguable, I grant you), more durable... AND quite droppable. (Mine is at 20 and counting; With tank guards, I show no damage yet.) I like and appreciate the pre-08, but the 08+ is infinitely more ridable, for my purposes...

Mine too, Phil. So, just what did the newer ones give up, exactly? A little travel? There's a reason for that. Otherwise, I don't see a pre-08 KLR 650 being better in any way.

The new KLR is cool. I don't have any experience riding one, but had an '03 that was my DD in SD. My butt would hurt in short order if I had to be on the thing any longer that 30 minutes or so. I wish I had a bike right now. Looking for a street legal XR650R and the right timing to pick it up.

Lots o' nice rides in this thread!

I'm interested to hear more about your KLR. I've only heard the negative stuff.

They do look better than the old ones, but I've heard that Kawasaki gave up a lot of off-road ability to give it tamer street manners.

I'm the kind of guy that takes everything I own into the dirt. I'm even thinking about putting mild dual-sport tires on my 600 Ninja when I get it running again, just so I'm not so limited to pavement. I even took my wife's van over some of the neighborhood trails in an attempt to find a shortcut home (she was with me, and not extremely happy about it) .

Please, educate me on the new KLR. My BIL owns an older one so I've gotten that perspective.
