I wonder if I can convince the wife to use our vacations for a hunting trip to Alaska this year lol.

What are the odds you can kill an alaskan brown bear with a .300 ultra mag?Is there such thing as flat ground in Alaska, I mean hell even the seas have mountainous waves.

a 300 Ultra mag will drop anything in North America. The issue is shot placement. 50 cal won't stop a bear if you hit him in the leg. The issue you have to deal with is what type of hunt do you want. 45-70 is only good for 100 yards or so, perfect for those close hunts in the timber and brush. I've never hunted bear, just 400 lbs wild boar with razor sharp tusks. I like to take my shot from a few hundred yards <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" /> I use a Reg 7mm ultra Mag
