Les, I am in love with the .30-06, and have been since I shot my first one in about 1959, when I was 10. One sweet cartridge.

And I understand f=mv^2, too.

I've never fired a .300mag or a 7mm, unless the Mauser I fired many moons ago was a 7 and not an 8mm. I have fired a .458 win mag and a .450NE (like getting hit in the shoulder with a sledge) and I guess I'd prefer the lighter caliber if I had to fire more than one shot.
