Anyhow, so getting back to the topic at hand... the winch is a 12k lbs model. Fully packed, My rig might end up being 5k.

[color:"#666666"]As an aside, I've had a couple of folks ask why I thought I'd need a 12k winch instead of an 8k, 9k, or even 10k model. I based my decision of the reality that the max pull capacity w/ 4 layers of cable on the spool is only 7k and you usually don't pay out all your line down the a single layer when winching. Also, it was a lot cheaper than the hydraulic which I would have preferred[/color]

OK, back to my question... Is a bumper made with 1/4" steel angle iron (a 'c' shaped channel) that's mounted using 8x 5/16" bolts (Grade 8) to a very re-enforced frame (5/16-3/8" sheet metal pieces) strong enough for this winch?

If not, how thick does it need to be. I know some of you guys have 'wenches' (paypal acct set up yet? ) on the fronts of your rigs. Wondering if any of you have given this much thought or if you've got your winches mounted to similarly designed bumpers.

TIA.

My winch is mounted to the frame via a 1/4" plate. The bumper is fasten to the winch for convenience and has nothing to do with winching. Most winches, on Monteros, are frame mounted and we will do yours that way if you wish.

Ray,

Come over and look at my setup. I'm serious. Bring your camera. You'll be a true believer in 2 minutes.
