Getting the Wheeling Fever

Greetings, Just picked up a 88' Montero and brought it back to the vineyard. Pristine but the engine had a warped head and it was scrapped by TDPO. So I'm scrapping the rest of the block and gas hardware. I've got a D50 4D53 with a blown head gasket and my plan is to yank them both and do a swap. I need to pull both engines and rebuild the diesel. But should I pull the diesel engine out before doing a head gasket job... Or just put it on an engine and go all the way through it.
