Body Damage is Cool
As far as I know, the languages of China and Japan are very different, the people origins, history and even races are different (the people of Japan have some Polynesian blood mixed in them, this is why they consider Hawaii as a related territory). But they still can read, to some extend, the each others texts. Correct me if I am wrong.

I was being sarcastic in that statement. The cultures are very different.

The Japanese language "borrowed" characters from the Chinese and, in some cases, use the same reading of the character. However, there is also another reading of each of the Japanese kanji that is specific to Japan. "ON" is the Chinese pronunciation and "KUN" the Japanese. ALL the kanji originated in China. The two other writing styles are hiragana (curvy) and katakana (straight lines) which are 72 and 73 characters respectively. About 3000 kanji are in use in the Japanese language today.

I've never heard of Japan as a country having a polynesian heritage, although I won't claim that this isn't true. Hawaii has a large "Japanese" population because of it's location between the US and Japan.

Sorry for the rambling...
