what year wagoneer axles are the best for a sportage when going SAS? there are a couple of mid to late 80's wagoneers for sale for 500 to 750 dollars.

you will have to get late 70's waggy axle. they switched to drivers drop in early eighty's. go with toyota axle. just as strong as 44's but a lot lighter. thro sum longfields in the front and thet are damn near bombproof. have done amny sas on toys and i think thats the way to go. just my 2 cents

If you want Wagoneer axles make sure you get the rear with a center dif, I had a set of Wagoneer axles given to me but the rear has a right offset dif. I'm not sure what year had the offset difs, I think mine came of a 79. Also try to find the front with locking hubs, not full time hubs. Toyota axles are lighter, plenty strong and I think you can get lower gears for the Toy axles than you can for a D44.

ok, get the rear 44 with the center, as mentioned, but there are 2 to watch out for- one is only offset 3" and you might not notice- the other is offset at least 9" and it's easy to see... or, you can use the one out of later model isuzu rodeos.

for the front- you need a 75-79 cherokee/waggy axle. some come with flat-top knuckles already but none are tapped.

then you need to go get you some dodge dana 44 diff covers cuz all the other ones are paper thin.

you really should totally overhaul the entire axle from wheel bearings to ball joints and swap your gears and add lockers or welded carriers before the swap.

found a set of axles off an 81 chevy 10 bolt rear not exactly sure what front it is. but it passenger offset and 6 lug. i never killed the ten bolt i had in my astro and these are free axles.. i think i want to design everything off the rig and try and get it all in in a weekend. but it wont be till the end of summer

also dave what did you do for rear suspension on your rig? is it the stock setup welded to the new axle.? i have access to a few kias im thinking it might almost be possible to use the rear setup in the front as well..

The stock sporty front dif is offset.So this will eliminate using the rear axle on the front.If you did get the axel in you wouldint have any locking hubs

im sorry i meant the rear 3-link and panhard setup like pull the crossmemner and all the mounts and make it work on the front.

edit: the axles i have are from a k10 pickup gm ten bolts front and rear. so lets get some ideas flowing what are people planning on using for springs? front suspension? lets get the juices flowing maybe get another sticky up top.

ok, i still have 3-link plus panhard front and rear. i built all new links and crossmembers and the coils are custom up front and aerostar van out back. however, in the next couple months, i am going airshocks up front and triangulating the lower rears. won't change things too much. 10-bolts are ok, but not quite as good as 44's, but free is nice...

get some bushings and some rod ends and bungs and find a friend witha welder and you're set. refer to pirate4x4.com forum to find the antisquat calculator to help design your suspension and ask questions. search first tho, they're big on that over there...
