just curious on how hard of a project it is to pull off the head i need to heli coil one of the spark plugs, the threads stripped out. While driving down the freeway some how it loosened up and flipped upside down and the heat melted the boot from the coil and gave it room to go up and down on every stroke so it wore on the threads, hopefully it didn't do much damage to the piston the tip of the plug was preety smashed. It is not a daily driver so it can sit in the garage for a little bit. Any info would be great.

don't need to remove the head to heli-coil, just go slow, and use lot of valsalin on the tap, then that a tube taped on a vacuum hose and stuck as much of the clippings out of the cylinder as possible if any fell off the greased tap then take a a long dowelwith a cotton tip with some vasalin and poak around the cylinder head to get anything thats left, put some sealer on the insert install it the use the seat tool and hit it with a hammer, let the sealer set up before you install the plug, use real heli-coil inserts not the cheap wire type ones.
but if it mashed the plug I don't know if it hurt the valves and or the piston, you could be opening a can of worms.

well to pull the head the intake and exhaust manifolds have to come off.or at least the exhaust connection at the manifold and fuel/vacuum lines from the intake . the spark plugs, coils, throttle cable, valve cover, and all electrical connections. there might be a few more things...im gonna pull a junk yard head soon to port and polish im gonna get a second motor at some point as well to build a stroker. so if i get to that before u begin i'll let you know

http://cgi.ebay.com/Helicoil-Sav-A-...40%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50this what the kit looks like, I would not buy this one it is out of the country, hope the long link works, you need the insert length the same as the spark plug thread length. will check some other stuff out for you if I can installing a water heater today and may have to run to the store a few times.
