On my local CraigsList someone is selling Downey Torsion bars. Add says; "downey oversize torsion bar for 86-95 IFS 4x4 trucks/ 4runners, provides about 2in of lift." For $100. IÆm guessing its a set, not just one bar. (havenÆt called yet) My question is; will these fit my 96 T100 4x4??

Check Downey website for fit info - may be seller is relying on outdated pre-96 spec data.

Downey web site shows the same part # for T-bars used on 4WD 93-98 T100's and 1986-95 4WD Pickup & 4 Runner, with the same price of $158. So now I need to call the person to make sure there part # is the same(48186), and to get the price down a bit. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Does anyone have any input on the Downey T-bars?? IÆve read the discussions about SAW T-bars but not much on Downey.

I have a sneaking suspicion Downey's may be made by Rancho. I used Rancho bars for a couple of years and liked them. They carried the weight of the winch well and stood up to some considerable thumping. I believe they're still in use by Honger on here.

Well I called the guy and he gave me a different part #, close but not the same.(48161) So I passed on those bars but I see on ebay there are SAW T-bars for $150+shipping. They are listed for 1986-1994 4WD Toy's. Waiting for a reply from the seller, if they will fit T100 4x4's. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220384571006 Is that a good price?? I am only adding new larger T-bars because I am upgrading to 35" tires. Is there any thing else I should do/upgrade before putting 35's on?? I have front gears(still looking for best price on rear gears), I have the clearance, I have aisin hubs installed, Toyota just replaced my relay rod(recall), and I am going to beef up the idler arm or fork out the $$$ for the Total Chaos arm. Anything I am missing?? I have stock bumpers for the time being(no extra weight), Do you guys think I need to up grade the T-bars for just adding 35x12.5 a/t tires?? Thanks for any help.

I doubt you need to, but if you add a heavier bumper or a winch it will help hold the front up.

SAW stuff is high quality.
Thicker torsion bars are simply stiffer springs. If that is what you want, then go for it. Larger tires are not usually a reason for wanting stiffer springs though.
If you want lift without increasing the stiffness of the springs, crank up the stock bars.

I have a set of Downeys on my truck. Been on there since about 03. No problems. I have em a bit tight though cause when I hook up to a trailer the front end becomes a diving board. It's the only thing I can figure is causing that. Also have a TJM winch bull bar (no winch) on it. My stock ones are sitting in storage........

Thanks for all the quick replies! So it sounds like I should take the $$ I was going to use to buy T-bars and put it towards the Total Chaos arm. As much as I hate spending that much $$$ on that little part! I worry the stock idler arm will crap-out once 35's are on. Anyone have a good link for rear gears?
