I've seen that thread, I think there might have been a couple. I've been researching stuff that swaps over that I can get at the yard. Just couldn't find a solid answer about whether the steering box would work. I'll pick one up and let you guys know how it goes.

Didn't Justice start a Gen II to Gen I compatibility thread last year? Yep.

It would be nice to have a compatability list of stuff that will work on gen I. good luck Search is also your friend (see here.)... but you haven't been on here for long so I normally wouldn't tell you that. I included the link to Justice's thread in my reply above but I guess it was missed.

Yes swapping the steering gear from the gen 2 makes turning 35+ size tires effortless, I really don't think this is a good swap for some one with smaller than 35's. I don't think you would be able to control the truck with tiny tires with the gen 2 steering gear. You can seriously steer the truck at a standstill with your finger tip.

This is a swap you've done, isn't it? Did you have to change anything like the pump or the lines? Or did it just bolt right in with existing hardware?

yes we used the steering gear from my old '94 SR on lordtrunks 89 v6 swb, I'm pretty sure one hole doesn't line up and you'll need to drill and that was it the rest swapped right over.

the top holes don't line up you'll need to oval them out and use a heft washer like what kevinc did on his or cut the top mout off the frame and make a new one then weld it on.

I was looking at a 91 LWB to put on my 89 SWB. They fitting/tubing is larger, as Grasscat said. The top bolts don't line up . I guess this is the same problems as gen2s.
