From time to time i here rumor of gears in the 3.2x range. I would guess they would have maybe only been used in a real early pickups, maybe with a 4speed manual? Since these old trucks do not seem to have the data plates, what years, engine and trans combo would have used some thing taller than the 3.54.

Did the early trucks all have the 8" ring gear?

You will find a 3.308 in the back of a 3000GT VR4 with a 6 speed. That is 94 & newer. I do not know of the 2.86 in the 8" axle over here. I have not seen anything taller than the 3.54 in a truck.
I have only seen the 8" in the back of the 4 cylinders here. There were smaller axles overseas.

Probably be a lot cheaper to put a tire with about 10% larger circumference than to swap in another diff...

Thanks Old Colt
So if these would fit in a 4cyl truck housing, they should all so fit in the Starion housing correct? I should have said the recipiant would be the starion.

Fast Eddie, you have a good point. Taller tires would work fine on a 2wd truck. We were talking about this over on a Starion site. We are a little limited how tall we can go on the stock rim and still maintain the withe needed to put the power to the ground. In my case i am already running over sized Drag radials in the summer. The guys on stock 24.88 tires could go up to a 26" tire

You should have no problem getting 3K gears into a Star. For highway cruising they would be nice.

I had my 3000 vr4 out to day for the first time in about 3.5 month's. I would have never thought to look at a vr4 for gears. Thanks again.

Question, Did all 3000gt/Stealths use the 8in? Almost asked if they ran a 7.25 (thats the 4cyl front diff right?) upfront but I dont think I will <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

No you won't ask that we hope.
Yes the rear of all the 3K VR4 were the 8".
The 7.25 will also be found in the rear of 2.6 powered cars with live axle, this would be the Fire Arrow and Sapporo for example. And it was in the Starion without intercooler.
