Scott, these are Baptists, Ch of God, Rollers, and probably some snake handlers. They have LONG church services, and they vote...

Forgot this part until I was telling wife about it today.

The enduro race sunday had to "take a noise break" from 10-12:30 for the local churches. Only in rural GA....

Track weekends I've done have all had quiet hours on Sunday, but not for 2.5 hours. At VIR and Summit it's just an hour from 12:00 to 1:00. I wonder if it's legislated, or just a courtesy to folks who live close to the track. In any case, 2.5 hours of quiet time is a bit ridiculous. That takes away a session from every run group, and it's not like track weekends are cheap.

I could see it for folks to attend 2 different services from 10:00-11:00 and 11:30-12:30.

If they're going from 10:00 straight to 12:30, that's hard core man

The Amish go all day Sunday. If you think about it, only spending an hour worshipping on Sunday is pretty lame, in the grand scheme of things...IF you're a worshiper. :-D I blew off church a couple weeks ago to race my dirtbike.

It's called trying to remain integrated into the community where you enjoy the sport. A noise break is a small price to pay in exchange for a safe place to crack it open and getcher fix.

Dirt tracks around here are south of the industrial area, so any church is a waaaaaays off.

haha You guys just don't understand.

I decided I wanted to tour the local Southern Mississippi churches about 10 years ago now. Just to see what they were all about. SO... once a week on Sunday mornings, I would attend a local service.

This experience was so insane, that I still tell stories of it to this day.

I'm talking 50-70 YO women in Full Length dresses with White Bonnets, and White Gloves Sprinting/Running ON BACKS OF THE PEWS front to back of the place contorting their faces, and blabbering incoherent language very loudly.

One place had a Deer hung up INSIDE the church with a 5 gallon bucket under it to catch the drippings. About 45 toyota pickups in the parking lot with dog boxes complete with hound dogs used to catch said deer. They were giving thanks for the bountiful deer harvest that year.

There were awesome ones too.

One had service on a sandbar on the river. Outside.... You sat on the sand. Afterwards there was food, and everyone played football, frisbee, and the kids played in the water.

Some were totally terrifying, while others were totally awesome.

FYI.... Our management areas are closed to hunting on sundays so service is not disturbed.

A few years ago I had an interesting meeting at a race track. We rent a gocart track in New York State up on the St Lawrence River. This weekend was when I showed up with my Turbo Hayabusa powered tubeframe car. Bloody fast little thing.
On getting to town early on Friday before the track owner could get there to open the gate we stopped in the village for some eats. While we drove in I was getting the eye from an Amish gent driving his buggy out of the village.
When we were in the store I saw he had returned and had pulled up next to my trailer. Here my thoughts were how he must hate such useless excesses in life.
The next morning with the event going on at the track we look up on the ridge above the old sand pit the track was built it and saw the silhouette of him on his horse and buggy, up there watching us play on the track.
That evening we were back in the village for dinner and as conversations rolled around with the locals, we learned that Amish gent has an offshore performance boat that he cruises the St Lawrence on. Interesting bit that I did not expect.

Cheers, Charlie

For awhile there was an Amish guy who kept dirt bike at my friends shop. Once a week, someone would drop him off there, and he'd ride for a couple hours, and then get picked up. We used to ride in some old strip mines, and we'd get pretty decent crowds of Amish guys watching us at times. If they'd let me keep my truck and bikes, I'd go Amish.

I like the Amish. We had a group that lived near my home town, and some of us ne'er do wells used to go play baseball with them. Fine folks. Never pushed their religion on us, just treated us like family, including that wonderful food. And man, they played hardball. I still have the scars from getting flipped head over heels as Yonnie broke up the double play. And you did NOT want to block the plate when Hans was coming home in the ninth and one run down. I still blocked it, and to this day I still can feel that hit.

I get along with most rollers, as long as the conversation stays off religion. I've got none with a brand on it. All the org. relig's want you to take all the hard parts on faith, and I'm just not made that way.

God would not take from us our free will, and thus that part of the glory that is ours. - Niccolo Machiavelli...
