Need a Spot
Hey guys. Like the title says, my 90 lwb is making a loud clunk when turning the wheel sharply at low speeds (like parking spots). It also has been shaking at highway speeds. The shaking is very random. It doesnt happen every time or at just a certain time. I dont have any clues, but when it shakes, the steering wheel is shaky too. Any help would be great! thanks

Idler arm bushings. Opposite the steering box there is an arm with an identical swing radius. You can buy just the bushings. A stronger fix (new bushings last not long, and even less long with larger tires) is a gen2 idler arm, i.e., a 92+ arm, but those are not rebuildable.

Check the upper control arm bushings, too.

You can buy just the bushings.

Sadly, OE idler bushings are no longer available for the GenI. Not aware of any standard aftermarket bushings. I'm beginning to think all inventory 20yrs or older has been moved to the bins out in back of the dealer/warehouse. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Sooooo...Where do we get bushings now if they aren't available? I have the exact clunk when i turn sharp at low speed. Being on an island in the middle of the Pacific makes me need an internet source. Any ideas?

The clunk on slow parking type turns is the turn stop. It's normal , they all do it.
When you change the bushings just unbolt it of the frame , no need to take it off the drag link.
