web page This is just crazy! Something should be done to prevent things like this. Those people might as well live at the hospital full time.

You must've missed this part:
"Eight of the nine patients have drug abuse problems, seven were diagnosed with mental health issues and three were homeless"
They are going to the hospital to have their symptoms treated, and the staff is neglecting to address the cause(s).
THAT is the sad part. Makes me wonder also if any of them are former veterans, as we're starting to see more GW vets in our homeless populations too, and not just in little ol' Fairbanks, Alaska.

The article did not say whether or not an investigation has commenced to determine if the number of visits was accurate - or if the hospitals were using names repeatedly for the purpose of milking social programs.
I'm not saying it's what happened, but the possibility exists - and if found to be true, it wouldn't be the first time.

No. I saw that part. I'm betting the substance abuse for those people are hospital meds.

whew... glad your a brown vs having to add a b3. my wife dislocated her shoulder a couple of months ago (it popped back in luckily) and couldnt get more than a days worth of pill for her pain. since then, we fired the old doctor that wouldnt even listen to her... not 2 words out of her mouth before he went off on some other tangent. new doctor did surgery... might be why im so on edge, with every responsibility falling on my shoulders. she was in a huge amount of pain... got ibuprofin or acedamenifin along with physical therapy with the old one , even though she was obviously in a great deal of pain. got what she needed with the new one... all jacked up on morphine and a few other things when we left the hospital after the cutting. my point, i understand that people doctor shop for pills... but the people that need them are being neglected. i heard about this story a couple days ago, stupid yes... but whom should be held accountable? my money is on the medical provider. if they were getting the pill... heads should roll and lisences should be revoked. im thinking this entire story is bs... nobody, even politicians arent stupid enough to do or enable this.

nobody, even politicians arent stupid enough to do or enable this. You really believe that? I'm not so sure, after what's been going on lately.

whew... glad your a brown vs having to add a b3. Huh? I can understand people having constant problems, but come on. Did it not occur to these doctors that these people were in and out of the hospital constantly? You would think somebody would look at their history and get suspicious, long before this story broke the news. My friend recently had a brain tumor...he had a seizure and was taken to the hospital. All they did for him was give him some anti-seizure meds because he did not have insurance. A month down the road, he had another seizure, this time in a supermarket. They finally decided to do the surgery.... Why did they not do it in the first place!? He is in debt for the procedure now anyway...he could have died from that second seizure! These people from the story probably don't have life threatening cases.
