My brother has an 86 4x4 pick up (Auto of course) 22RE
Went out wheelin last week... truck did good then couldnt get out of its own way, one spot on the rocks had some smoke puff out from underside (was under throttle and truck wasnt moving).. So assuming that the Torq Conv is done (after it sat for the eve he drove it home fine in 2wd), So the question: Where is a good place to find a new??? found some on ebay.. not so much on line... Anyone have a fav brand???

Thanks in advance

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've rebuilt lots of A43D and A340 series trannies, and the only place I'll buy a converter from is Precision of New Hampton.

http://www.gopnh.com/

I've had several shop owners tell me PoNH has good stuff, USA-made, lowest return rate (shop owners HATE doing free warranty reinstalls), great service, and reasonable prices.

Is the fluid burned? If it's high mileage and the TC goes out, I generally overhaul the whole thing.

1986 Sunrader Motorhome 22RE $200
1987 4Runner 22RE (under construction) $80.77
1989 4Runner 22RE, 6" lift, 35" Dunlop mudders $420
All rescued from sitting to death, all auto, 'cuz I'm too dumb to drive a standard.

Havent had a chance to check the fluid just yet.... After the no go, we let it sit for a bit and a nice easy ride to camp, where it sat for the eve till the ride home...

Now in 4lo that next morning he did say he felt as if had power loss... But in 2(hi) it was fine even at highway speeds. Guessing the Torg Conv got over worked (Have seen clutches get beat on and tired )- I know the previous owner said it has slipped once or twice... but my brother never noticed a slip.... So thinking definatly a "TC" and a fluid drain & fill - I'll look at the fluid see what we see... I have a 'spare' AT tranny that I'll never use, so if after the above I guess he'll get that ..

Whats your thoughts on a seperate tranny cooler???
