Hi Guys,

Been having a slight rubbing issue with the tires i installed last year, 315/75/17's just slightly rub on the sway bar when turning at full lock. ie: in a parking lot. Figure i can either get new rims with a deeper offset, remove the sway bar or install some spacers. Spacers are the cheapest route. Over the winter the rubbing was only annoying, but now that I'm taking the jeep offroad wit's becoming more than annoying, sucks not having full wheel travel!

What are the disadvantages of spacers? Anyone run them on a JK with stock rims? I have a mild 2" lift, and I think the extra width the spacers will giver (1.25" spacers = 2.5" extra width) will help to lower the C of G.

Are spacers the way to go until I can afford different rims? Or will I be opening p a can of worms by installing them?

The easiest thing to do is to simply adjust the STOPS at the wheel so it won't rub anymore.. Why not do that and drive her for a week or two to see if the adjustment lowers your turning radius enough to even know you did it?

First, I'd do like BJ suggested, and adjust your steering stops and see what you can put up with. If not, then spacers are acceptable, IF...1.

1. Use a quality brand name spacer. SpiderTrax are good ones.

2. Use a spacer that is machined, not cast.

3. Use a spacer that has full-length wheel lugs integral with the spacer.

4. Follow the spacer manufacturer's instructions re torque.

5. Use LockTite on the nuts holding the spacer on.

6. Recheck the torque after 50-100 miles of driving. Re-check torque again about twice a year -- I check mine when I service the wheel bearings front and rear.
