First off I want to appologize ahead of time if this a repetitive question, but I did a search and couldn't find anything. I just picked up my first Trooper (insanely pumped about this truck) and I didn't get an owner's manual. What's the best tranny fluid to use in the 5-speed? Also, what should I throw in the front and rear diffs? Thanks

30 weight motor oil for the tranny and t-case
Gear oil for the diffs
Weights, types and brands can be adjusted for your personal tastes and climate.

Actually, it's 5W-30 for the tranny, unless you are living in the desert, then you can use 40wt. But, I don't think you will a) find 40 wt, or do many of us live in places where it is constantly above 90*F.
As for the diffs, Steve is correct. 80w-90 if you are living in more temperate regions, 90wt if you are a bit warmer than that, but that is splitting hairs and you will do just fine with either one.
Good Luck, Michael

I'm in Florida so the truck stays pretty warm most of the year. Thanks for the help so far.

Hmmm...my 90 helm for the Trooper/Pickup calls for the multi-weight (and specifies 40wt for hot environs). Not that it really matters in the end. It would not be the first time Isuzu treats the same piece of equipment differently. Does your manual also have the "Don't use 10w40 in a 2.6 or the world will come to an end" warning?
Out of curiosity, what's on the fill plugs of your tranny?
Michael

I apologize, you are correct. I guess "my" manual calls for 30w since my ambient temp is fairly mild. edit> BTW - The entire 1990 Amigo Owners Manual is in PDF format in this directory (except Chapter 1, I'll have to look for that). ![[Linked Image]](http://lttlbddy.com/albums/MyAmigo/OwnersManual/Chapter8_16.jpg)

Kick ass. I got to tell you guys. I've been a mechanic for about 7 years now and hardly ever see any Isuzus in for major repairs (or any for that matter) so I had no idea what type of fluids to use. I have always been a stickler for using the correct fluids in everything including my own vehicles and customer's alike so naturally I wanted to know what I need for my new old Trooper. I literally called seven different shops from tranny shops to dealers and got five different answers It's been pretty funny so far. I find it almost comedic and sad at the same time that there are techs out there that will just throw "whatever sounds right" fluid in something not realizing that it can be life or death to certain components. So far this has been the most consistent place. Thanks dudes! I guess I need to find a manual for my truck to have around. Oh, one more question. Do Amigos and Troopers have close to the same powertrain? Thanks again.

Hey there and welcome to the forum... Here are some links that will be useful to you. This one is for some Trooper manuals that you can download... I can't vouch for it but have heard good reviews... http://rapidshare.com/users/OSBSEO/This one is for pics and part numbers (from Isuzu)... http://www.myisuzuparts.com/index.phpIf you need to order parts (OEM) contact Jerry (JLEMOND) on this site... just send him a PM. Do Amigos and Troopers have close to the same powertrain? Thanks again. The early Troopers has 2.8 v6 engine option, the Amigos only came with the I4s. A 2.6 Trooper will be the same as a 2.6 Amigo for the same year. The OEM 1990 Service Manual, covers the Amigo & Pickup. The Trooper had its own. Probably similar in other years.
