well, i am fully expecting to use a 20 pound sledge and maybe a sawzall, but is 4.5" backspacing about normal to run? i know i ran across a thread that said the backspacing of the stock wheels, but i cant find it.

Body Damage is Cool
You want to stay as close to the stock backspacing as posible, especialy with only 2 inches of lift. I had to cut the corner of my bumper and pound on the back of the fender and inerfender to get 31s to fit with a 4" lift and 4" of backspacing. You also want to at least 7" wide wheels, the stock 6" wide wheels could cause pour, squerly handling.

I have 4" lift, 8" rim, 31x10.5 tire, and I had to cut underside of front bumper, and rear of fender well. Still while turning and hitting a bump offroad, it rubs allitle. And i have a chance to buy 35x12.5 tsl thornbirds, brand new, for about 250.00 dollars. Imagine the cutting for that. Poor, poor, Kia.

Wouldn't even go there unless you're doing a SAS. Biggest and most immovable issue is the chassis end of the bodymount near the firewall. Under compression when 3/4 lock you WILL hit this and no amount of bodylift, springlift or wheel backspacing can change the chassis. 32" measured (not optimistic manufacturers "measurements") will max out this clearance.
