My 95SR won't start or turn over. Good battery voltage which doesn't sag much when I try to start. No click either. The starter isn't spinning at all. I have been having trouble with the park/neutral position switch, and I suspect the safety feature which prevents starting in gear is inhibiting the starter. The park/neutral is currently attached to the vehicle, but not adjusted correctly, so that the computer doesn't actually know what gear it is in. However, I have tried messing around with it temporarily so that that "P" light is on when the transmission is in Park, and it still won't start. It's just a simulation of the properly adjusted switch, but I thought it would work. If it's not this, any ideas what else it could be?
Also, I am changing jobs in a few weeks and would be open to selling this vehicle. I am in Iowa. Any offers?

On both my 95 SR's the ignition switch wore out. Not to say that's your problem, but it is common. The part that houses the electrical contacts is plastic and unscrews from the back of the tumbler. Not too expensive IIRC. I was able to clean mine by dissasebling it but it only bought a month or so time and I replaced it with a new part.

I cleaned up the ignition switch and didn't get any result. Where is the inhibitor? I tore the center console apart after reading a thread of someone fixing their Raider that way, but I didn't find it in the console. I haven't looked at the starter yet- the FSM says you have to drain the transmission and remove the dipstick tube to get it off. Is that right?
Thanks for your help.

It's in the selector detector switch on the dside of the tranny.

Do you mean the park/neutral position switch? I've been messing with that, but it's on the passenger side.

Well, I know it's not the starter or the solenoid. I was able to jump it with the key in 'on' and a wire across the battery lug and S connection on the solenoid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi7JmYgqiG8See? Who wants it?

Check the continuity or voltage drop across the ignition switch. You should be able to take the electrical part of the ign sw. off the lock part with a couple of screws.

I did take it off and clean it up, but it could still be bad, I suppose. It didn't go through a period of being intermittent (except once), but I can still test it. Does anyone know is there is a test procedure in the FSM or somewhere else?
