Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello guys... I did my homework and tried to find with the search engine on the database about getting better break response on Gen I (82)without any luck.

Anyone knows how to improve brake system other than change calipers and disks on the Gen I models? maybe there is a swap master cylinder for newer models or also includes booster?.. Any ideas?

Thanks

JorgeA

You have to swap calipers, caliper brackets, rotors, and (if you like) master cylinder/booster. You can either use Gen I V6 brakes or Gen II brakes.

I swapped calipers, caliper brackets, and disks from a Gen I V6 into my 88, but I didn't swap the master cylinder/booster. With 33x12.5 tires on it, it'll lock up the wheels on dry pavement (that's happened to me). It's also strong enough to blow a brake line if you brake hard enough (that's happened to me, too).

I'm not sure if the 82 has the same master cylinder/booster in it as the 88, though. I think mine might be a little stronger.

My actual Iron master cylinder is 7/8 and I think the booster is one diaphragm while the 88 V6 models have 15/16 Master Cylinder with a double diaphragm booster. I think it will be a good idea to swap since I already bought a brand new 83 (small) disks and shoes for the front brakes.

Anyone has changed the master cylinder with booster already?

Thanks

I put front brakes off a 98 2wd Montero Sport on my 89 V6. They are the same calipers as on a Gen 2, but being off a 2wd they were in real good shape, no rust or mud.
