Got a question here concerning scanners:
First of all it WAS my Passion and HObby, As well as my club that I was with....Long ago.
We would listen to even the school bus route on the net and even UPS (I know get a life) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
About 20 yrs. ago I had a really nice mobile scanner (it covered most) if not all of the frequencies <uhf-vhf-television-> As low as 18 to 600 .....My memory is bad....but it was a really nice unit!
Used it while I was in N.Y. and even took it to Europe{might have been illegal <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />}!
When I look at the new ones today they are in the area of $500.00 ---- $1400.00 BUT they have limited or restricted some of the frequencies???
Or am I not looking in the right area???????
They don't go to the GHZ or do they?
I remember 49.0 MHZ was for the old wireless home phones and such and 70.0 MHZ was for the military Base security overseas (130 stateside) etc...
234.0 was like for the old school Law Enforcement...
Anyway, have the scanner laws changed?
And 800 mhz was like trunk-ed systems etc...
It used to be a nice hobby that I had before to listen to the aircraft and what not........But did the laws and production of units change besides price?
Am I on drugs or did the older units allow for more freq. coverage????????
If this is confirmed then I should be looking for used older models right?
SIDE NOTE: While I was in militry in GE The german Police asked me what our frequency was (On back of my radio) and I said 71.4 and they dialed in on a mobile unit in their van and keyed the mike and they were on our band (no encryption active ) of course! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
BTW: I got a CB but would go otherwise if my friends did too! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
2nd question:
Awile back I bought 2 old taxi transceivers with amps in L.A. from the flea market (prolly from Mexico)....Never used 'em but what if I did?
Would that be illegal?
