What a crappy day! I got a call from my dad when I got home from pool league, and he said the local pd are harassing him about my Æ64 Nova sitting in his driveway in Seattle because itÆs on the side of the driveway and not driven. If I didnÆt live across the dang country I would just drive over there and take it home, but that isnÆt so easy to do when I live in Connecticut. It just chaps my hide on top of a crappy day at work.
Not that I really want to sell it, but anyone know anyone in the greater Seattle area that is looking for a fun sleeper project. 1964 Chevy II (aka Nova in later years) 4 door, straight 6, 3 speed manual. The car isnÆt perfect, I bought it in college for a driver while I rebuilt the trans in my truck, and then I just kinda fell in love with the car, its little and fun, but still seats 4 comfortably. I had to rebuild the straight 6 in school, but other than that the car is pretty much original, so it shows itÆs age, but I drove it to where I parked it before I moved to Connecticut about 7 years ago.
Anyway, I am more annoyed and venting about the silly local PD having nothing better to do then harass my pop about a car on his own property, but if any is interested or knows someone who would give the car a good home drop me a line.
Thanks,
Sean

Why would the pd even care if it's on private property? Is crime so low in Seattle?!! Sounds more like HOA crap Sorry to hear that.

That's my whole point, its private property, but it's in "public" view by being on the side of the driveway which is about 100 yards long. There is no Home Owners Association, my pops place has been there in North Seattle (Shoreline technically), and itÆs been there longer than the town has. Shoreline just became a town in '95, and everything went to hell in a hand cart. The kicker too, he lives down a dead end road, so itÆs not like is on a major intersection or something. They most grief they give him is because itÆs parked on dirt rather than an "impenetrable surface", yet the other cars parked up by the house are parked on gravel and if this was parked on gravel, and could be shown to be drivable, (which it should just need a battery and a little fresh gas) even though it isnÆt licensed they will say itÆs acceptable. Since when is gravel an impenetrable surface? It just blows my mind.
I just wanted to wait until I had a garage to bring it back east because they use too much salt out here, but at this rate, I donÆt want to see the car die so I may have to post it in the For Sale section, obviously with all the proper details. I just figured I would vent here first and see if I got any ticklers from anyone. Ideally, IÆd like to find a cheap way to get it back here, but that may not be possible. WeÆll see.

Petty and pathetic. IT makes you feel proud dont it?
Just park it on the street and move it occasionally. Let the city provide the pavement. Maybe even leave an oil spot on their street.

I wish I could, but it is not currently registered, so that would give them one more thing to harass my pop on.
I can't tell you how much it reinforces why I want to live on about 20 acres that backs up to woods, and maybe a lake, in the middle of nowhere.

Almost always the cops only get involved if one of the neighbors complains. You are right - the cops do have much better things to do, but they have to get involved if there is a complaint.

Some jurisdictions are giving tickets because of neighborhood beautification initiatives to combat crime and to prevent injuries to children. Others are using the opportunity as a source of revenue.

As a car guy....
I never leave a project car in view for more than a couple of days. Keeping plates on it and the "it could be driven" look helps. Keeping it washed and moving it once in a while, even if you have to push it prevents it from being noticed.
Also it might be possible to rent a place to store it.

Kevin I've found that a car cover kept clean and in place usually prevents any issues from ever developing.
