I have a 84 CJ7. It has been converted to a 304v8. It normally runs smooth. However on random occassion it will start running rough, idle will drop and will cut off if I don't keep my foot on the accellerator. I will continue to run like this until I park it. The next time I run it, it will run perfect. It may go 50 miles or a couple of hundred befroe it does it again. Any ideas?

Golly Tarheel! It could be any number of things... You need to narrow it down to either lectric or fuel. Does it smoke when it deceides to go bad on you? If black smoke when it is stumbeling then the carb may be going south.. If it refuses to gain rpm it could be lectric. First thing is to check the plugs and wires to make sure it isn't just in need of a tune. Big JIm <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

I have had a similar issue with 304 in a 74 CJ5.
Turned out to be a cracked distributor cap.
