Okay, not enough on my plate... I picked up the black 87 Montero from Clarence yesterday, the first step in my plans for a 302 Ford-powered two-door. I've previously lusted over the V6 SWB Monty's but many of the specific parts are harder to find, like fuel tanks, interior panels and colors. I've since decided that using the leaf spring models have the decided build-up advantage. My progress will be slow, due to budget(s) and things I'm going to have to learn about. I don't weld, or have the capacity, yet. There is a little body work to do. However, this little Monty has no rust in the typical areas, is really clean, and isn't red!! I'm going to use parts from the vast stores I have and learn to fab some things. My plans for this project: 1. 302 V8, somewhere approximately 250HP (not too much to kill parts), 2. Overdrive automatic and low gear transfercase (unknown models yet), 3. Appropriate Gen II parts applications, 4. 33" tires and body armor, 5. No body lift if I can avoid it, 6. Rear top removal, 7. Power windows and sunroof. This make seven Mitsus in the yard today. Russell Reference thread: 4x4Wire thread Beginning photos: ![[Linked Image]](http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff112/rxinhed/Black%2087%20Montero%20V8%20Project/DSCF0976.jpg)

I'm from the UK too but I have lived in the US for about 6.5 years now. Whereabouts are you from. I grew up in Norfolk. We call our trucks Montero's because that's what they are called , also call Pajero's...Pajero's. As far as I know they are the same as the Shogun's sold in the UK

The Spanish dialects used in those three regions render the word "Pajero" as something offensive. "Montero" was used because it means Mountain Warrior or some BS like that! Montero Sports here are nothing more than Challengers. I guess Mitsubishi NA decided Montero Sport was more appealing than Challenger! Who the hell came up with the name "Shogun"?

My plan for axles includes the 4-cyl rear and V6 front end from the 1991 parts car I'm going to install slotted front V6 rotors, unless I come upon a Montero Sport that I can part. As my skill, or friend's, abilities allow, I'd swap in the V6 rear axle.
