I figured I would post a quick update on my LWB Montero. I bought a brand new Melling oil pump for the tune of $140, and a replacement timing sprocket from Rxinhed. I finally got around to installing the pump, and quickly learning my small torque wrench is broken after snapping one of the bolts in half and stretching 3 others . quick run to the parts store for replacements and the pump is installed. I checked my crank for wear and all seemed to check out fine. I am going to finish up the bottom tomorrow and flip her over to start the heads. I should be done within another week or two depending on the money. I only have to buy a new water pump timing belt and harmonic balancer. I am fairly confident all will go without incident.

Sorry, my garage is a total mess, a table collapsed out from under itself.

Oh, and I gotta add that I absolutly love those 3M prep discs, the purple ones for head surface prep work great all around for every surface of the engine from the oil pump mating surface oil filter mount etc etc the uses are limitless.

I love the fluorescent green, but that is about 3 years late for a resto-mod.

I pulled two engines yesterday, soon to have engines in that attitude.

Its listed as "Grabber Green" on the engine enamel paint section of Advance Auto. I am tired of the old and overused red color.

Need a Spot
Hey StockRaider,
We in the UK never use those balance belts, we haven't bothered with them, for years, because its just one more belt to go wrong and foul up the timing belt by wrapping itself around the timing belt and bang goes your rockers, in bits, but there you go, just thought I would pass this Jem onto you guys, as I see you are about to put your engine back together, bye the way, we have not had any bother with vibration of our 2.5 Diesels.

Only problem here Scorpion, is the Harmonic Balancer is actually the crank belt pulley. Its pretty much a gotta do it thing. Besides, I like my AC and power steering. that reminds me, I need to order a power steering pump. Rxinhed?

We in the UK never use those balance belts,

That engine is a 6G72 - it has no balance shaft belt provision.... and no balance shaft either.

Got the oilpan on and heads on. I am going to do a bit more work each day taking my time to assure its all done right. But I think since the heads are on, I made a good step forward. I went by the book listing and torqued the heads down to 70ftlbs (with a properly working torque wrench). Just thought I would double check with you guys to see if thats right.

Also, I didn't paint any aluminum surface because the paint will just retain more heat.

And yes some of the paint has come off, but thats from me nipping it with one of the 3M prep discs.
