hey all, so been a bit since i wrote in, been getting some more done,

clutch line work
[Linked Image]
single flare
[Linked Image]
double flare
[Linked Image]
clutch line in place.and finished putting in the "new" pedal assembly and clutch master clyinder(which is missing the cover,if anyone has one?) through the firewall.

[Linked Image]

4JB1t up up up! had to lower the truck to get clearance..

[Linked Image]

and lowering it in

[Linked Image]

forgot to put the block heater in until now, oops.

So, the engine fit right in, transmission was a bear to adjust because the support for the skid plates is non-removable so the rear of the transmission can only be pushed back so far until the transfer case hits. also had to do a lil body mod inside the cab to get to the top bolt of the tranny. i used a grinder to open up a 3" hatch.:) due to the size of the tranny being a little larger there was absolutely not enough clearance to reach the bolt. i also shortened the throttle cable, clipped the pedal side bead off, took out the cable then shortened the housing, cut the cable to match, reinserted it all and put a cable stop on the pedal end and it looks good. no pics on that one. i dropped off the driveshafts last week to get them shortened, the rear by 1" and the front by 3 1/2". put them in today, and starter and shifters too. i used some of the old fuel lines from the donor vehicle to run from the passenger side where the filter is, along the firewall to the driver side, since the injection pump is on the opposite side. i still need to lengthen the vacuum hose from brake to alternator, and i found out the my crossmember from the c223t doesnt reach back far enough to meet up with the transmission support bolts. damn. i thought i was home free. tomorrow i will try to put in my new ball joints and replace the outer cv boots. i think i am going to order a summit radiator to cool this thing since both radiators i have are shot. and for exhaust, i dont know yet as it exits on the opposite side than the old engine, but there are no spots for it to run on that side, namely through the crossmembers...any ideas on that one? we shall see...

good work on that turbo, brian. my project is coming along. recently finished the clutch work, had to make one clutch pedal out of two because the newer diesel pedal didnt have appropriate S bends in it to clear the body, because it was R hand drive! so i cut off the long arm and bolted on the old S arm so it would clear. now it works!

oh pictures, the clutch pedal is one of the few steps i did where i didnt stop and go get the camera, just plowed on through..another would be the throttle cable shortening, also done in a spontaneous moment. although i can take a photo of the bits left over that i had to cut out when making the new pedal! haha.here is a photo of the crossmember not lining up. i since got it modified by a welder friend, it fits nicely and in his words "is bombproof". sounds good to me. i bought the engine i actually got it running today, and drove it around the block! i still have a list of things to finish up, exhaust, air filter, and put the intercooler on are the big ones. but it RUNS!

Nice work. You're making progress about 100x faster than I did.

I want to ask you where you got your clutch and seals, etc. -- should we start a 4JB1 parts source / part number thread?

Let me know via private message - I just got my Trooper on the road and the clutch is absolutely junk, slips like crazy. I will post some updates regarding the hood scoop and some other little bits in my thread and on the blog soon, have had no time as yet.

good idea, adrian. i will put that together soon and post it under the thread you just started smile i put the intercooler on, and used the original air filter housing but with the 4jb top for the filter box since it orients the air tube in the right direction, up and over the valve cover. i want to put an aftermarket performance filter on it instead, use the room for the veggie filter. any ideas on the filter to use? someone mentioned this ]this[/url] one. and i also need to get the exhaust done, i was thinking 2 and 1/2, a lil boost up from stock. i drained and changed the tranny fluid today, im using royal purple 5-30. it takes a little over 3 quarts, not including transfer case. and i also need to get the exhaust done, i was thinking 2 and 1/2, a lil boost up from stock. i drained and changed the tranny fluid today, im using royal purple 5-30. it takes a little over 3 quarts, not including transfer case.

Nicely done.

Where did you get the hood? Did you buy a half-cut Trooper to begin with? Now there are two (at least) in the U.S. with the factory scoop.

I had also wanted to ask you whether you tried to use the stock C223 glow plug controller? If not, what are your plans for a replacement controller? I've come up with a few alternatives, but ideally I'd like to use the stock Isuzu unit.

the hood came from the half cut i bought, that is correct. as far as the controller goes, it also came with the whole glow system, so eventually i was going to try and wire it all in so it would operate stock. since the 2.2 is 6v and the plugs are 12v, i think the original stock controller would need either modification to put that out, or at least some method of doubling the voltage once it left the controller. i think someone else has used a VW timer relay with good performance. but for now, the truck starts without the use of glow plugs, very easily, so i will put off doing the electrical for now. i can also pull the isuzu part # off the controller, perhaps it could be ordered?? if you wanted to see about getting one that would need no modification, other than figuring where all the wires go, of course!
