Yes, I removed the C-clip. I essentially followed the below steps (which I cut and pasted from another thread)

1- go buy a spindle nut socket for an 80-96 fullsize bronco/f-150 and grind or break 2 opposing teeth off, leaving the other 2 opposing teeth

2- remove hubs, loosen front lug nuts, jack front suspension off the ground

3- remove wheels, remove spindle nut lock washer, remove spindle nut(s)

4- pull hub assembly off, bringing with it the outer wheel bearing. the inner bearing should stay on the spindle if there is enough grease holding it there. it can then be removed, sometimes, with a little prying at the race (be sure not to damage the spindle here).


So why does the hub not come off, and is the fact I can move the spline shaft up and down in the hub normal? I'd think the bearing race would keep the shaft from moving.
