The ride is compaired to what it became after I put the extra weight of the ARB and winch on the stock Toyota shocks. The weight was definately too much for the old shocks, even the bushings were failing. Pix of the busted toyo shocks here

I supposidly have Tundra valving, but still think the ride could be a bit firmer. Maybe I just got too used to the Bang-Shudder-Shudder of hitting a pot hole with the old shocks vs. the new Float-Bubble-Bubble with the SAW's installed.

All in all, I'm pleased

NJ, glad you like them, I got the Tundra valve as well and to be honest I expected a firmer ride. Well I have to say, after having them on for a while and doing some wheeling with them, I love them!

I thought the ride was going to be a lot firmer based on what I've seen everyone else say. There's nothing firm about it, even compared to stock, about my ride. I have no problems with it though and like it. It did what I wanted to--to fit bigger rocks underneath.

I should really attempt to make an effort to read the whole thread before responding, I think I answered the question several time. Sorry everyone for the extended thread!!

Yes, they're pre-charged. They include the note in there to tell you what to fill them to whenever you get them serviced (maybe in a couple years) or if you happen to let the nitrogen out, such as if you shear off the schraeder valve by following their installion instructions. SAW also probably wanted to make sure the word gets out that the shocks should be fully extended when you fill them to 200 psi. I know that guys at TTORA weren't doing that a while ago.

And since we're on the topic, yes, CO2 or air is OK for repressurizing them, although nitrogen has properties that aren't affected by heat as much as CO2. Plus then you don't have to worry about CO2 and water vapor making carbonic acid, etc. So it's preferable to find some welding shop to refill them with nitrogen, if you ever need to. Air is about 70% nitrogen, so that sounds good to me, too, although it might have water vapor in it. I've never had to recharge mine due to leaking or anything else - only after shearing off a schraeder valve or 2 or 3. I did temporarily run with CO2 in them for a while and didn't notice any difference in feel. Too bad you can only get about 170 psi through the CO2 Powertank regulator.

Darren - when a SAW has no pressure in it, (e.g. no valve) then you'll first notice that side will sit about an inch low. This is one of those suspension exceptions where shocks actually produce some of the lift due to the pressure. Also, with no pressure in them, the shock's oil still dampens oscillations, but you'll notice that you'll "sink" lower on every bounce and there'll be more oscillations than normal.

SAW has previously told me that the purpose of the nitrogen pressure is just to prevent the oil from foaming as it's forced back and forth.

I wouldn't recommend checking the pressure with a tire gauge unless you are fairly certain that something is really wrong. Otherwise, just checking the pressure will release a bunch of nitrogen and it'll make you find someplace to refill them.

Thanks all, & Steve for calling. I feel alot better now. All that is left to do is go and wheel them this week end...

And of course do the rear suspension, and the sliders, and the rear locker, and the snorkel, and the tube bumper, and the yack rack, and the... and the... by the time I get around to doing all these it will be time to retire the Runner

I've definitely skewed my opinion toward recommending the Tundra valving more for people with the SAW's.

Maybe I was just used to my Taco valving when I made the switch to the Tundra valving last winter. The only remaining thing that I can notice now with the Tundra valving is that I can't cruise quite as fast over a really rocky trail when I'm trying to really fly. Softer shocks would help it to just float over lots of rocks when you're really moving.
