I've found my 22RE is a bit touchy with bored out TB, cam and 4:1 headers. I have to keep the timing right close to stock (5 BTDC) as any advancing over that and the idle speed is too high. I also added a stiffer throttle return spring on the TB to help keep it fully closed. But with that setup I can set the idle anywhere from 700 on up, usually keep it around 850 or so as it idles a little smoother there and every once in a while it'll drop to a slower idle and it'll get rougher unless I set the normal idle a little higher.

Good point on setting the timing. That's something I'm gonna have to take another look at since I'm sure it's not going to be right now that I've got things more dialed in.

Any particular source for that stronger throttle return spring? Of course, that'll make it hard to apply throttle.
