I show one in my files with that exact symptom, we fixed it by installing a 50% restricter in the vaccum line to the EGR valve. Odd one that one was..

How do I get my hands on, or make, a restrictor for the vacuum line? I'll try anything!

BTW: On the highway I assume you are running at a lower RPM? Nice response offroad should be nice response on road, unless off powerband.....*EB

I drive it like a reasonable person. Seriously, I do. But if I head up to the foothills, it's 3rd gear time if I want to stay over 50mph on a hill. What really burns me is having to dip in to 2nd over a couple of passes over the Sierras. Passing? Forget it. Once I lose momentum, I couldn't pass a Greyhound towing a tractor.

It runs smooth with the exception of a fluctuating idle.

I know it's no sports car, but it's too slow.

When I take it off road, it's unreal. It's been about a year now and I still can't believe how strongly it pulls off road. It will pull like a goat right off of idle in a gear or two higher than normal. If it weren't a daily driver, I wouldn't complain about a lack of power on road so much.

My apologies to outdoorfan. I didn't intend to hijack your thread. [/quote]

>>>*Sorry, I got sidetracked with some family issues, no end to paperwork.

On the restricter question, I happened to have a jetting kit for a Holly Carb, I just used a jet, shoved it in the line. Then I kept going bigger until it didn't show a check engine light anymore. We tried plugging the line and instantly got the check engine light, but the idle settled so we knew it was EGR.

My notes say I used .090" jet drill. One thing on that one, if allowed to idle for a long time it would begin to drop off again, a quick blip of the throttle calmed her down.

But it was more acceptable behavior. That was a rare one though, it's a bit tough to diagnose running issues from 2000 miles away but I keep trying....*LOL**..

*Hey, next time you are out on the highway, pretend you are out chasing a Jackrabbit, see if she works better......*EB

*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...
