The lubricant specified for this trans is API GL-4 ( TSB update). Some synthetic gear lubes meet GL4 and GL5 requirments and are not corrosive to brass synchro rings. In these instances a GL5 lubricant can be used.

Because of the paper-lined synchro rings, a friction modifier should be added to the lube fill. One bottle of friction modifier, Mitsubishi part #ME581050, should ensure smooth shifts.
