These trans remind me of the old school buses. Big HD trans with large jump to 2nd. I kinda exspect slowness there. ...

Yea, I should be use to this after 12 years but I've driven M21/22s and my current T10 for ever and I'm spoiled.

I think GL5 is good for the rear end and is OK to use in the MT transfer case. No brass in there,,,I hope.

No, you absolutely do NOT want to use GL5 in the t-cases. The t-case has syncros and GL5 will do exactly the same thing as it does to the transmission. (At least our) shift-on-the-fly transfer cases have synchronizers. I have a good example of what happens sitting on my garage floor. When I drained the oil in March in prep for installing the NP231 conversion it came out gold. It looked like someone poured gold paint in the t-case instead of oil.

This article incorrectly states that GL4 or GL5 can be used in the V5MT1 transmission.
V5MT1: MitsubishiÆs Truck Transmission

According to all the shops I've talked to in the last 3-4 months, the dealership techs, and what I've been able to find in print - under no circumstances is GL5 rated gear oil to be run in the V5MT1-1,3 or 6 and it isn't supposed to be run in ANY of the pre-1999 shift-on-the-fly transfer cases. I didn't check anything post '99.
