My pops used to say Jags only like to run fast in crappy weather.

Well when British stuff works it works beautifully. The whole unreliable stigma might have scared me back in the day purchasing a new XKE but a 46 year old collector car is expected to have issues. My dad and I have discussed the Ford 302 swap option which is a bolt in mod but then what would I have? A jag with a Ford motor. YEA!

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

I have always thought of E-Types to be more of a machine than a car. A real live racing machine (from the 1950s) brought to the street. Truly a work of art.

How long has it been since you have worked on the SU carbs? You might want to check out the brass floats. They can pinhole, cause flooding. Bad things can happen. One of the many little things that pop up after a "sleeping Jag" has been brought back to life.

My outlaws just told me their neighbour brought home a 1971 TR6 with 44K original miles on it Unrestored and pristine. I'll try and get a pic. TR6's are lovely

I have not touched the carbs since JR High but My dad was driving this thing kind of regularly about seven years ago. I'd say seven years since the carbs have been looked at. I did fire it up a few weeks ago just for a bit and she sounded like some carb work was needed. I want to run it long enough to see if the head gasket is leaking but I did'nt want to force too much too soon. thanks for the heads up

I love Triumphs. Not the fastest cars on the road but you can actually FEEL the road. There is a certain rawness to the old cars that you just cant get in a faster newer sports car....the old British racers truely were machinery in motion. Definately post up pics of that TR-6.

Chris,

If you're contemplating that thing above, I'll give you a Gen I 4-door chassis and fixings.

Half of me loves it but the other half thinks that guy should have his kicked for doing that to an XKE.

Yes he should. Do that with Miata or something. See the Morris Minor in the background? The little blue car. They were designed by Sir Alec Issigonis who designed the original mini. Growing up our family car was the van version of it. My Dad had another for spares. He once swapped the 1L engine carrying the engine from one van to the other in a wheel barrow
