I saw a GTR today. Way cooler.

Cooler if you like paying 40k more for a car that has a transmission made of glass that's not under warranty if you use it like it was intended.

get the 2010 model instead... lol...

I actually really like the car also, like any GM product (and toyota now as it seems) I'd hate to own any new car outside the warranty.

A friend of mine from work here is waiting on his new Camaro to be delivered... I'll have to take it for a spin and see if my opinion changes

If your co-worker is waiting on a V-6 model with a six-speed, his wait will continue. Scheduled production isn't even happening yet, but should start soon. I've read as soon as next week, 5-18-09. The auto tranny cars and the SS in both transmissions are flowing, however.

Then there's the backlog. Seems there are like 14,000 cars that were ordered before the car even officially rolled out, and the factory is presently making around 250 cars per day. Saturday shifts are being added in June and the previously scheduled plant shutdown in July has been shortened from two weeks to one. The Oshawa plant also assembles Impalas.

The V-6 already has a healthy aftermarket as well. One can already buy cold air intakes, shorty headers and cat-back systems from a handful of manufacturers, including GM (and Holden). Conservative estimates make it sound like a CAI and Cat-back can add aound 30 hp and ~20 ft-lbs. The Camaro's V-6 is the same as the Cadillac CTS's optional engine, so some of the R&D is coming from that program.

If I can even order one now, which is questionable, as there's an alloction set-up for each dealer and most dealers have filled that, I may get it by Christmas. I think I'll wait until the initial rush dies down and the incentives start...there are none right now and no special financing, etc. At least most dealers are not attempting to gouge and are holding the line on MSRP. One might be able to find a dealer demo, but it's probably going to be a compromise on something like color/options, etc. to get a discount.
