You may check out the link on Frank's supercharger project for some good rebuild techniques. The one I remember that seemed really important is to check the clamping range on the head bolts. There seem to be a lot of failed head gaskets due to improper torquing. Get a bottoming tap and chase all the head bolt holes in the block to make sure the threads go as far down as possible. Then install the bolts and measure how much clamping range they have. Compare this to the thickness of the head and gasket combination. Shorten the head bolts as required to make sure the bolts don't bottom out, thus giving a false torque reading.
