Maybe our cranks are different here

Yes, I've heard that they're smaller. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Seriously, if he wants to stand behind it, I'd let him try.... but I'd make sure he will R&R + rebuild the engine all at no cost to you for a reasonable warranty time - say 6 months minimum. Otherwise, I'd look for another crankshaft.

Now - just to make sure - he's talking about 0.010 inches - not 0.010mm, right?

If he's talking inches, you're now out on a limb with a decision to make - one that I can't advise because I have not heard of any anecdotal evidence that the crankshafts can be cut with good results. Nor have I heard or seen proof that they will break after grinding. I suspect that Mitsubishi was being cautious with this TSB and perhaps if you don't abuse the engine, you can get away with grinding it 0.010"..... but it's your money and your choice. My tendency would be to trust my machinist if he stands behind his work.

You might be able to find a better crankshaft at a wrecker that would only need a polish.

afaik cranks are pretty rare and expensive here. sometimes being more expensive than a refurbished engine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The machinist was quite surprised at the TSB as he says he has done many cranks like this one before ( in worse condition ) with no problems at all.

He has a good reputation in the area ( hence my long wait ) and has been around for many years.

I think I will trust him on this as he said the crank can be cut. I have told him to do what he thinks needs done and also instructed him to source the parts ( i don't want any fingers pointing at me ) for the build as I expect ( and will get ) a warranty.

Thanks for all the help so far and will keep you guys updated. Hoping to go there monday and take some progress pictures

NB: I have until monday to source a used crank so if i find one at a steal i'll just get it at the wrecker.
