I went looking for lenses for my hella spotlights ( as they were badly cracked and chipped ) but......... There was an enthusiastic salesman that said I can get brand new spots plus globes at half the price of the hella lenses So I bought two pairs ![[Linked Image]](http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/9530/pajero.jpg) wiring done as follows if ( brights = ''on'') and ( dash switch = ''on'') then ( spots = ''on'') else ( spots = ''off'') Running through a 30 Amp relay with 600watt lawnmower wiring and a 20 amp fuse

I got warned about the wire gauge so I went investigating
Silly me. I knew I must have given the wrong info somewhere because my wires aren't getting hot ( not even at the connectors ) . I went and traced the invoice ( 18 months ago from online incentive program ) and found that the wire I bought was rated at 2500 Watts. ( and probably have a bit extra for safety )
So
2500W/240V = 10.4A
I doubled up the wire so that should give me just more than 20 Amps which is enough for the spots ( 220W/12V = 18.3A ).
Am I correct in my reasoning here?

Am I correct in my reasoning here? Almost. What you're missing is the length of run. The longer the wire, the greater the resistance and subsequently, the greater the voltage drop across the run. So, if you can post the wattage of the lights, the size of the wire AND the length of run from the battery to the lights, then someone can check your choice of wire size. Frank

4x 55 watt spots 2500watt ( 220v ) rated wire which I doubled up
length is probably around 1.3m - took the shortest route from the battery to the spots.

got a picture taken with another camera this is the wiring on an iso measuring tape ( millimeters ) I used both wires twisted together for the positive feed to the spots. ![[Linked Image]](http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/8318/wiring.jpg)

You'll have to tell us what size the wire is in wire gauge size: Calculator Frank

My money is on 14ga, just looking at it. The fatter the wire, the lower the voltage drop, and the cooler the wire runs.

I couldn't find the gauge but on the wire it says
15A/25m MAX
