from what I have heard it shouln't be a problem with the start up and I'll just crank until I get pressure with the coil disconnected.

Do what you want, but that's a good way to burn up a Mitsubishi starter. I only know that because I've done it trying to get oil pressure in a 3.0L. Maybe you'll get lucky, though.

You'll also want to disconnect the injectors.

Frank

I should have been more specific in what I intend to do

I will follow your list as per above post with the exception of the pressurised air.

With the the shop priming the pump the startup conditions will be similar to starting your car after it has been standing for a few days.

And yes. I hate cranking for longer than 6-9 seconds at a time without a minute's rest inbetween.

If I were you, I would replace those freeze plugs on the back of the block(or all of them for that matter). Especially that rusty one. You dont want a mystery coolant leak after you get it mated to the trans.

If you disco the tach wire from the coil, you do the same as disconnecting the injectors.

Justice, it looked to me like the left hand plug was new and the rusty one was actually out and you're looking at the cylinder wall in the water jacket. I think the machinist was in the process of replacing the plugs when the picture was taken.

[EDIT] Another look and I think the left side has not been replaced. I would not only replace those, but all the rest as well. The inside of the cooling jacket looks pretty rough and the plugs could be well eaten on the inside.[EDIT]

Frank

yes. I asked the machinist to replace ALL the plugs and he was busy with it when I took the pictures. Frank was right that you saw the inside of the engine and not the plug. Only one plug was in at the time of the pic.

Thanks for looking out for me guys

With the block completely disassembled, I'm kinda disappointed to see it was not hot tanked.

I primed the oil pump on the Montero rebuild by having the engine on a stand upside down and fill the oil tube and turn the engine over by hand until it comes out of the filter mount. I used 10w40 for this, stayed primed through assembly and install

I went through the pics I took and found this on only one of the cylinder walls. What could that be as all of them were bored and honed.

Could it be some acid etching?

Wow that looks like some really bad etching... never saw something like that on a cylinder wall.
Could that be a bad casting?

I was at the machinist just now and the picture was deceiving. Could have been fluff or something but on closer inspection and feeling and eyeing closely at all the cylinders there is no flaw at all. It looks very pretty.

Assembly takes place today as all the gaskets have arrived and i'll collect tomorrow.
