What do you guys think about western NC in mid-late July? I am considering a weekend to weekend trip and that area is one option. Possibilities include a trip on the Nant, some wheeling, hiking, climbing, etc. It would be great to meet some folks...

hazy daze what route do you travel to get there in 4 and a half hours? Uwarrie isn't too far as a crow flies but I see taking I20 all the way to Florence before turning north. Or do you go through Charlotte? The other alternative would be to drive friday and get a cheap motel in troy. Any favorite motels up there?

441 north to 85 north.

And I knew calling it soft wheeling would get a rise out of Eli <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

But, if you'll indulge me, any wheeling that can be with a stock or near stock vehicle, is soft wheeling IMHO. Those do look challenging and fun though. But hardcore they aren't...

Again, IMHO <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I would also say it is pretty softcore. BUT it is fun in a Montero. It is 200 miles from me and I am in Anderson SC. Hazy's house is another 80something miles.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Is this more like what you are looking for hazy?

I used to go here when I lived in Missouri. Talk about some extreme stuff.
Of course I was always one of the spectators... lol <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> at about 3 min. in you can see the small guys taking the bypass route in the background..

Are there any places like this around here?

Not necessarily what I'm looking for. But, I'd definitely drive farther for a bigger challenge. And I wasn't saying that I won't be coming to Uwharrie. I was referring more to the length of drive that the Dr would have from Milledgeville. It's all relative though.

I wheel on Forestry roads about 2-3 times a month. And I go on wheeling trips with friends that have hardcore rigs as often as I can. My truck usually ends up being the tool and gut truck. Cause it'll do most of the bypasses.

I'll definitely get up there to wheel with ya'll NC boys as soon as I possibly can! Probably for a fall trip of some sort. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Good to hear that there is a good chance you will be there. If everyone that is still on the list of going makes it we will have 4 Gen 1s.

I guess as far as softcore/hardcore etc goes its all on how you view things, nad how equipped your rig is.

Back in 06 when Sparkem and I did most everything out there when I was on 235s I would have agreed that Uwharrie was 80 percent softcore with 20 percent hardcore thrown in between Kodak Rock and Daniel. But that was back when there were only 3 lines on Kodak, the ledge on Daniel could be done with a stock truck on 31s, the 3 path hill climb on Dickey Bell could be done on 235s, and the hill climb on Dutch John was paved essentially.

Now its getting close to 50/50. Kodak has opened up into 6 different lines, plus Budweiser rock has been carved out through erosion/usage. It takes 33"s and a lift at the very least to even try the ledge on Daniel now, plus there is no more bypass at the hill climb on Daniel. The 3 path hill climb on Dickey bell can barely be done on 33"s with lift without stopping/having to back up/get spotted etc. And the hill climb on dutch john that wasn't even a challenge in 2006 now is rutted out to where vehicles on 33"s lifted are having issues. And oh yeah the ledge before Kodak that used to be doable on 235s is now in 33"-35" range.

With the closure of Tellico they are letting some things go (mainly Daniel) to make it more of a challenge. Things have changed a lot in the 3 years since a lot of the guys have been there. But I am guessing it will take some people going out there and bashing their trucks around on the rocks to figure it out. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
