Thanks for all the great hints.
I sent the ecu in to get repaired and they said one of the capacitors had leaked(not visible from the surface, top or bottom of the circuit board)and shorted out the 5v regulator and caused 12v to go to all the 5v circuits.
They said the ecu was beyond repair, at least for them.
They didn't even charge me and sent the old one back at their expense.
I purchased a used ecu from Ebay and installed it and it fired right up.
The one I purchased was from an automatic, while mine is a manual.
When the mechanic gets the radiator and other parts put back together, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> I will be able to road test it.
