Thank you all for the help! Axe Man I checked again and all I have is battery voltage at the 2 wires for the coil connector. I pulled the ECM and was able to count over 52 pins and found what I assume to be the correct wire on the ECM plug because it did have continuity. The only thing is the wire is not yellow at the coil plug it is green. And this green wire has continuity to a spot counting 52 over at the ECM plug. If this sounds correct my next step is finding a new ECM. On a earlier post reference was made to ECM numbers. Will all 97 5 speed Sportages have the same number?


Something is not making sense. I have the engine electrical schematics for 1996-1997 as well as the electrical manual for 1998-2000 and neither show a green wire to the coils.

Send me an e-mail at mjats@juno.com and I'll forward you the 1996-1997 data. Use that to verify the coil wiring back to the ECM.
