The diversity of Monteros in Central America is amazing. Here's a 4-door diesel Mighty Max from the mountains of southern Honduras. Trucks cost 50% more there than in the US; older vehicles are maintained and kept in service.

I'd love a 2dr Pajero Exceed DiD 5-speed (Needs to be LHD though) to go with my 01 Montero Limited.

A Pajero Evolution would be nice too!

If I could score an Evolution, I'd suffer with driving on the wrong side of the truck!

Those Double cabs do have some potential to emerge from theyr destiny as a fishermans hauler to become a decent off roader. All they need is some TLC and $$$.

I have a Gen2 SWB here in OZ with the 3.0L. I just sold a Gen1 LWB with the 2.5L 4D56 ITD. I was enamored with the diesel before I bought it. No more. Too expensive to operate. Perhaps the 4M40 is a better engine. I had nothing but trouble.

Operating costs are about the same as with a gasoline engine. Better mileage with the diesel, but the fuel and all other consumables are lots more expensive. Parts are more expensive and harder to get as well.

I like my Gen2, but now that I've had it a few months, I like my 89 Raider better. For $300-350 I could put a Rostra cruise control in it. It's smaller, lighter, quicker and gets better mileage. I really dislike the cheesy plastic trim. The Rhino Hide I had painted below the trim line on my Raider is way better. The dash is not as well organized. I'm in the process of changing the drivers' seat to a bouncy - very complicated compared to the two I put in the Raider. The Paj does (did) have nice split rear seats, so I've made into a 3-seater with a box to hold all the stuff I hope not to use. I made the Raider into a 2-seater.

i have a bouncy in my gen 2. theyre available but not as common as gen 1. as for fuel...free for me (though not legal. filtered used ATF works great as a diesel fuel. only problems ive heard of were hard cold starts and slight smoking when cold) i do have a gen 1 SWB and plan on always having 1...but i really do like the gen 2 hence my wish <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Didn't know that. Back to the junk yard. The racing seat I bought to replace the original seat won't be too hard to adapt to the suspension, but my floor is not flat and none of the mounting holes line up with anything. Three levels for four holes with the left front (inside for RHD) at an angle.

I hate the dash on the gen2. Very dim in daylight, sometimes almost impossible to read.

I also hate the lack of vent windows, and round headlights, and the plastic cladding crap...

I'm halfway planning to put the 3.5 in the 89 lwb for the best of both worlds. Anybody know if the activetrac tcase will mate to a km148?
