I don't want to spend a bunch of money. I don't want to buy a junk gun. What do you guys reccommend for me to buy as my concealed carry weapon? The only pistol I have is a .357 revolver, 8" barrell...I'd need a trench coat to conceal it. :P I was thinking a Springfield in .40 or .45 maybe? I dunno, part of me thinks revolver is the way to go. Suggestions with pics would be GREATLY appreciated.

I would hope you would consider this as well:

Bookmark this if you haven't already:

That said, I like the Ruger P90

I've also handled a Kahr 45ACP ; good fit for small hands like mine; don't know much about their reliability tho'.

My current carry is a Para 10/40

I didn't jump on this one fast enough when my friend passed away, but I think you'd like it with Hogue grips on it; nice little shooter.

I carry a fullsize glock 17 concealed everywhere I go with a T-shirt usually, and no one would ever notice UNLESS I bent over to pick something up. 18 rounds of 9mm.
#4 CCW lisc.

If you're lucky, I might get my GF to take some pics of my setup. Last time I mentioned pics, and the internet, it ended badly.

If you want more stopping power than a 9mm thier is always the Kimber Ultra Carry II. 3inch barrel and very smooth reliable action. Of course its only 7 rounds... But if your looking for bigger

Kimber Website

Also, should be noted if your not looking for super short, they make a compact pro carry model with a 4inch barrel.

Kimber Compact

Edit: Just for the record, I am buying a Kimber Custom II (fullsize) for my CC. I am of course a much larger guy and its easier to hide on me. Also PA is open carry.

If you are a normal sized human 3'5 to 7', you should be able to CCW a semi compact handgun (glock 19, commander sized 1911) with ease. If you can't, you're doing it wrong.

While I like 45 just fine(I have a 1911, and love it), and I do not want to turn this into a POS thread by comparing the 2 calibers, MY personal choice is 18 rounds of +p 124grain 9mm HP's. If that can't extricate me from something, I'm in serious trouble.

WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE!!! Train. Draw from concealment with an unloaded gun over, and over again.

Take a ccw course.

Join a shooting range with an IDPA, or other practical pistol shooting activity. Shooting at the bench won't cut it. You need to be under the stress of a timeclock / buzzer / spectators to even get a glimpse of how stressful a defensive shooting could be. It's an eye opening experience.

You just can't wear a gun, and not be surgically competent with it.

Congrats on making the decision to be an armed citizen.

For 40 cal...

Glock 23..40cal... pretty much identical to a G19(9mm).. 13 rounds of 40.. Perfectly acceptable ccw.

XDs are alright. Some of the guys who shoot the serious combat courses have trouble with their xd's when they get dirt in the mags... Say it's muddy, and you do a non retained mag swap... Kiss that mag goodbye until you disassemble, and clean it. They have nice safeties(trigger, grip, loaded chamber, striker cocked) if you're into that sort of thing.(I'm not)
Still though.. XD40 compact would be just fine.

I didn't mean to turn it into a size thing (Well maybe a little). I am holding my friends 9mm while he is going through basic, nice shot and holds plenty of rounds. I will say the lack of recoil is a nice change when at the range (back yard).

I do agree with you Curt, shooting with spectators helps to add a little bit of pressure to it. Especially when its a group of friends busting balls when your off or your sight got bumped .

G19/G23 are good. I own neither but might pick up a 23. I've already got 9mm covered with my Steyr M9. Same basic size and capacity as a G19, the difference is that the M9 has good ergonomics. I'd probably carry it more if I had a holster for it that was quicker/easier to put on. If you need something smaller than a 19/23, the G26/27 are the subcompact versions in 9mm/.40.

Since .40 is the most common caliber used by LEOs, there are many trade-in Glocks in .40. I've seen pretty good prices on used G23s and 22s with night sites. One place to look is summitgunbroker.com.

I do carry a G36, the only single-stack Glock. Conceals very well in a CTAC and I'm comfortable with 6+1 of .45. That's only one less round than a standard govt model 1911, and I can actually conceal a G36 with summer clothing.

When I just want to throw a piece in my pocket and head out the door, it's my S&W 37-2, which is one of the airweight series of 5-shot .38spl revolvers like the more common 642. Ruger SP101 would be a great choice if you wanted to carry a .357.

If you want an ultra concealable mouse-gun, Ruger LCP or Kel-tec P3AT, both .380. I'll probably pick up one or the other eventually.

Whatever you get for carry, make sure the sights are visible at night. And I won't get into caliber wars, but IMO the bare minimum-power round you should carry is .380 or .38spl.
