Nice, thanks! Is the dealer fee usually a percentage, or a fixed amount? I'm wondering what they'll think about this idea, as I'm sure they'd rather I buy one from them.

Dealers charge various fees. Here in metro Atlanta, we have some that charge as little as $10.00 for a transaction. I do not live or work close to them, . the shops near me charge $25.00, $40.00, and 10% of the cost of the item. Phone your local area shops and ask their fee for handling the transaction.
If you are near Columbus, Vance's Shooting Supply is a good place. I have a friend who drops a good bit of his yearly income there and I have purchased from them over the phone. They may also have some police trade-ins.

The FFL who I've gone through nearby me charges $20 per firearm transaction. You should be able to find something similar in your area. http://www.gunsamerica.com/FFLSearch.htm

I'm pretty sure I've ruled out any kind of semi-auto...the reliability of a good wheel gun appeals to me. a hammerless double action .357 is what I'm leaning towards. Don't know about the laws there, but down here, if you qualify with a revolver, that's all you're allowed to carry. If you qualify with a semi-auto, you're allowed to carry either. I used both during quali. But in Ohio, it doesn't matter WHAT you use. They don't even record what was used during quali.
I found out I can mail in an app to PA, get their CCW, and that will give me legal carry almost everywhere (that has CCW).

In PA you don't need a class to get your conceal permit. You goto the court house, pay $25 and wait 3 days.

I understand that, I am just saying that you don't have to take courses and are not restricted to what you can conceal. from taking a course.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, nor a legal expert, so read this as just what it is...an internet posting and not legal advice. I found out I can mail in an app to PA, get their CCW, and that will give me legal carry almost everywhere (that has CCW). Except Colorado. In Colorado, for an out-of-state CHP to be valid: 1) the other state has to share reciprocity with Colorado and2) the permit-holder must be a legal resident of that state where the permit was issued That being said, laws are pretty loose here for valid permit-holders. There is no restriction on carrying while in any establishment that serves alcohol just simply because there is alcohol being served there (other things may restrict carrying of firearms). Although, you can't be under the influence of alcohol (which has yet to really be defined - as it applies to firearms - in court). You can carry any handgun you want, even more than one. There is no restriction against carrying a handgun loaded/chambered/unloaded (long guns can't be carried in a vehicle chambered). And as long as they can legally own a firearm (i.e., no felony convictions, no DV convictions), anyone, whether they have a permit or not, can carry a handgun (concealed or open) in their car, on their property, or at their place of business (provided the boss is okay with it).
