Don't know about the laws there, but down here, if you qualify with a revolver, that's all you're allowed to carry. If you qualify with a semi-auto, you're allowed to carry either.

That's Texas? It's funny, you always hear about how Texas is pro-gun, but I've heard about some of the laws down there and it's ironic that a socialist state like Oregon would have such lax gun laws, while Texas would have stupid ones like the one mentioned.

Here there is no qualifying. You do need a very basic safety course, but that's it. You just pay your fee and wait 30 days or so and you can carry any handgun in the world you want. Also where you can carry is pretty lax compared to most states. There's no restrictions for things like bars or certain public places, other than courthouses and Federal buildings.
