Can anyone give me the service manual procedure for removal of a radiator on a 1999 G.C with the 4.7 v8 all I can seem to find are instructions that indicate you have to take the whole front of the jeep off to get it out.or does anyone have a service manual for sale. thanks.......

Well, drain the radiator...

Sorry, don't have a GC; however, the part about having to take of the front is probably close to correct especially if you have an AC.

Prospector nearly all vehicles have the top of the radiator visible. If yours is open to the top then you could look to see if it would come out like most othere..
That is to loosen the large plastic piece that bolts on to the radiator flange and the fan is inside of it. That piece slides backword over the fan and stays thee. Then the radiator hoses are loosened from the radiator. Then the mounting bolts are removed from the radiator and the radiator is pulled straight UP to remove..
If however your radiator isn't in the usual location of most others you MAY have to remove much more of the front end to replace it.

You DO need to remove the plastic bumper and grille, and remove the whole radiator with the A/C condenser, fan, oil coolers, then split it on the ground. You can fight with it by trying to remove the fan and splitting the condenser and oil coolers with it still in the Jeep, but you risk damaging the parts. It's alot harder than it looks on a WJ We used to charge around 5-6 hours on a CP ticket, including the A/C recharge.

On my 00', my fan blew apart and cut the radiator. I took it to my mechanic and we replaced it in a couple of hours after work. We needed to take the grill off but did not have to remove the oil cooler or condenser. It took some work to do it but it can be done. From what I remember (4 years ago) there were a lot of screws (some kinda hidden).

On my 59 Ford pickup a blade came off of the fan at speed and came thru the HOOD! It'll surprise the hell out of you.. The engine minus one fan blade was so out of balance I couldn't drive it higher than 1200 rpm to the Junk Yard to get me another fan.
I drove that Ford with the obvious hole from the inside OUT on the hood for a couple more years..got a lot of attention from guys at service stations.

Good story Mr. Jim.
When we did the operation we could not find a fan blade in time, so we opted to go without one.(At the time it was my DD) I still to this day roll with no fan blade. It was such a pain in the but to tear apart, I am opting for a electric fan to slide in it's place. (fan is originally slid onto part of the engine)

Hey, prospect. Go the local parts store and get the Haynes Manual for the Jeep GC, it is for GC's from 93' to 04'. It has detailed instructions on how to do it. Section 3.8
I just looked into mine and I might be able to fix my fan without un-installing the front end.

Thanks for all the input .I took it to a jeep mechanic that was out of a job do to dealership shut down.I watched and learned, and yes the front had to be pulled completely off ,another thing he checked was the electronic fan relay for the electric fan ,it turns the fan on with the a/c. and when the temp gets to 235*.the relay is in such a bad location that you actually have to take off even more of the front end to get to it ,when he got to where he could reach both 10mm bolts the front end was completely taken off including both headlights and the plastic support for the grill and headlight assembly.and I mean everything.and yes the relay was bad .this relay is small enough that the jeep engineers could have put it up by the battery where it would be more serviceable ,the part was 38 bucks at napa.the mechanic told me the labor on changing this part is around 300 bucks,we also replaced the fan clutch .This just shows you why Jeep/Chrysler is in the position they are ,people are tired of being ripped ,this radiator replacement costs over 800 at the dealer .I gave the mechanic 100 bucks and bought the rad at napa for 169 bucks.LIVE AND LEARN.THANKS.if anyone has any questions about this adventure I feel I could give you the answer.....
